Exhibitions in The Roy Smith Gallery
Until Sunday 30th August 2008 "A House Through Time"
An exhibition looking back over the evolution of Whitehall from domestic home to today's historic house. This exhibition coincides with the 30th (Pearl) Anniversary year (2008 marks 30 years since it was opened to the public) of Whitehall. This display will explore inventions and ideas over the last 500 years that have affected the development of Whitehall and the people who lived there, the history of the house and how it has changed over the years until, in 2007 it finally achieved full Museum Accreditation. During the exhibition there will be quizzes and trails for children based on the same theme. 2008 is a special year as it is 30 years since the formation of the Friends of Whitehall. A year of celebrations and events is planned, starting with this exhibition. We also hope to have an exhibition of photographs covering Friend's activities over the past 30 years since opening day on Sunday 18th June 1978. We would be most interested if anyone has any Whitehall related items or photos from the early years, particularly of the opening day, which could be used in the exhibition. Use the contact form on this site and we will contact you.
"Unsung Heroines of World War Two." Unsung Heroines featured the real life stories of the women and girls of World War Two; ordinary people whose lives changed forever, overnight. The stories that were featured at Whitehall were the stories of local women. The full Unsung Heroines project is the work of local photo and sound journalist, Belinda Sinclair. The exhibition has now finished but the project is ongoing and will continue until there are no more stories to collect. If you have a wartime story to tell, please write it down and include your full name and, particularly if a woman, the name you were known by during wartime - nickname, pet name, maiden name etc. If you have photographs to include please copy them and identify who is who in the picture, then send your story to Belinda Sinclair. click here to contact Belinda by email.
